Early on in grad school I really struggled to learn APA style. As a professor now (but also when I was a TA), students’ mistakes in APA would always stick out to me. Right or wrong, these seemed to raise flags in the back of my head that other stuff in the paper might be sloppy. It’s a little bit like not putting your name on your paper or playing with the margins and font size.
